Author Biographies

Dawn Lees, University of Exeter

Dr Dawn Lees PFHEA

After a career as a lecturer of Physical Geography, Dawn joined the Careers Service at Exeter approximately fifteen years ago. Dawn has developed many employability initiatives at Exeter and has been recognised with several prestigious national and international awards. She has recently been awarded a Principal Fellowship of the HEA, in recognition of her sustained record of effective strategic leadership in academic practice and development. Dawn has led the work-related learning team at Exeter since 2008 and the Academic Skills and Student Engagement Team since 2016. She has used her considerable experience to embed employability activities more fully within student engagement at Exeter.

Jake Hibberd, University of Exeter

Jake Hibberd is currently Student Engagement Manager at the University of Exeter. He has been at Exeter since 2013 and has worked in various areas of student engagement and UK Higher Education for around eight years.

Rosey Davies, University of Exeter

Rosey Davies joined the Academic Skills and Student Engagement Team in 2016, after a career as a lecturer of exercise physiology. Rosey leads on providing academic skills support to students from a widening participation (WP) background; this has included the development of a series of highly-successful study skills clubs, in partnership with WP students.

Amanda Pocklington, University of Exeter

Amanda Pocklington is an Academic Skills Adviser and leader of Peer Learning Activities. Amanda is co-chair of LearnHigher, a member of ALDinHE Steering Group, co-chair of APL Comms and Marketing working group and a member of the Academic Peer Learning (APL) Leadership Group. Amanda currently manages over thirty peer learning programmes at Exeter.

Rachel Canter, University of Exeter

Rachel Canter is a highly-experienced Academic Skills Adviser with a doctorate in education. She leads on activities, including the Maths and Stats PGR Mentoring programme, and supports the delivery of Exeter's successful 'Refresh your Maths' initiative. 

Simon Allington, University of Exeter

Simon Allington joined the Academic Skills and Student Engagement team in 2016 as a graduate intern and was subsequently appointed to support the delivery of the Peer Learning programmes at Exeter. Simon has been instrumental in the development of several new peer programmes involving students from a widening participation background.
