'Bubbles of Perspective': A reflection on Higher Education and the REACT Project

Abstract

This opinion piece will look at the author’s background, with particular notes to Student Engagement and his time as a Sabbatical officer, and his understanding and views on the Higher Education sector. It will then introduce and explore the author’s concept of ‘Bubbles of Perspective’ with brief outlines of each particular ‘Bubble’. This will be followed by how these ‘Bubbles’ can be useful as a reflection on Higher Education as a whole and a way to look at the REACT project’s main concern of ‘hard to reach’ students.

Author Biography

Samuel Peter Chivers, Winchester Student Union/University of Winchester

Samuel Chivers was Vice-President, Education during the 2016-17 at Winchester Student Union. He graduated with BA (Hons) in Drama and worked with REACT mainly through his involvement in as a Steering Group Member. His position looked mainly at the academic representation of students studying at the University of Winchester, including Co-Directing the Student Fellows Scheme.
